Indigenous legend has it that the ghost spirit Pavla Blanca made a home for herself in White Sands National Park, as she never gave up searching those sand dunes for her lost lover, the Spanish conquistador Hernando de Luna. Even to this day, some visitors to the park say they spotted the ghost of a Spanish maiden approaching them, shrouded in a windswept swirl of white sand.
