Two national monuments in New Mexico are located quite near each other, and both are an absolute must-see. A natural stone arch, a freshwater pool, and the ruins of an ancestral Puebloan community are preserved by El Malpais National Monument, and a camel herd, yes you heard that right, a camel herd is preserved by the nearby El Morro National Monument! Several years before the Civil War, a most unique United States military expedition passed by the towering cliff face of El Morro. The U.S. Camel Corps traveled through this area as part of an experimental trip from Texas to California in 1857, leaving their unique mark in place and time. Some members of the expedition even inscribed their names on El Morro. Mounted and packed to the fullest, U.S. Army camels proved their potential for long-distance travel in the United States. To celebrate the paths less traveled in national recreation areas (these places receive far fewer visitors than National Parks), Anderson Design Group poster artists hand-rendered an original illustration in the fashion of vintage poster art and travel art. This retro design and original National Park art is available as a poster, print, canvas, mini canvas, metal sign, notecard, or postcard. To learn more about this and many other sites preserved and protected by the National Park Service, check out the dedicated webpage for the National Park System.
