Those who have traveled to this beautiful city in the Blue Ridge Mountains of southwest Virginia will never forget the experience. The town is known for many of its aesthetic and joyous features, including the Roanoke Star, a neon landmark overlooking the city from the summit of Mill Mountain. The city’s downtown features the Taubman Museum of Art which highlights work by American artists like Thomas Eakins and John Singer Sargent. Roanoke is also known for its rich heritage of higher education. Some of the local colleges and universities include Hollins University, Radford University, Roanoke College, and the Roanoke Higher Education Center.
