Established in 1864 during the Montana Gold Rush, Helena began as a mining town. In just two decades, more than $3.6 billion in gold was extracted from the region, making Helena one of the nation’s wealthiest boom towns in history. To this day, remnants of mid-19th century wealth can be seen in historic, Victorian homes and elaborate architecture throughout the small state capital. The city is relatively close to major attractions like Yellowstone National Park and Glacier National Park, so visitors often use Helena as a staging ground for exploring one or both of those parks. To celebrate its history and wilderness appeal, Anderson Design Group handcrafted this American Travel illustration, a vintage poster styled after the Golden Age of Illustration images of the early-1900s.
