It's not easy to find as spooky a tale as this from the era of late-19th century fiction. The Island of Doctor Moreau is an 1896 science fiction novel by English author H. G. Wells. What’s especially scary about the story is that it’s based on the actual scientific pondering of the author! Case in point, in 1895, Wells wrote a paper on 'The Limits of Individual Plasticity,' speculating about the possibility of transforming living beings. The Island of Doctor Moreau explores this theme in a “fictional” sense via a shipwrecked man, Edward Prendick, who reaches a sinister island inhabited by notorious vivisectionist, Doctor Moreau. Prendick sees the animal experiments and the transformations the doctor is conducting, but Prendick suspects that experiments are also being carried out on humans. The tale is both chilling and gripping! To celebrate the spooky story, the artists of Anderson Design Group rendered this classic book cover poster design as a part of the Literary Classics Collection, celebrating great books of all genres in vintage poster art. This original illustration is available as a poster, print, notecard, postcard, canvas, or metal sign.
